Eligible projects must be in one of the identified commercial corridors within the West Hill, Arbor Hill, North Albany, and South End neighborhoods, four of the Albany Community Development Agency’s Neighborhood Strategy Areas.
To be eligible for this program, your application must be on behalf of a retail business, which is defined as a commercial enterprise that offers merchandise, food, or provides services to the public, the sale of which is subject to sales tax, and from which the revenue derived constitutes the majority of revenue for the business. Businesses that would be new to Albany are eligible and those located in the City of Albany that could successfully expand into a new location that meets requirements of the program guidelines are eligible. Existing neighborhood retail locations are eligible for assistance with exterior improvements. Please reference the program guidelines or contact us for further eligibility questions.
The Neighborhood Retail Grant Program is designed to create an incentive to attract new and enhance existing retail businesses within strategically identified commercial corridors in West Hill, Arbor Hill, North Albany, and the South End in the City of Albany. Reimbursable, recoverable grants may be awarded for new retail location interior renovation and fit-up costs. Grants may also be awarded for exterior improvements to new and existing retail businesses. A map of eligible neighborhood corridors can be found at www.CapitalizeAlbany.com/grants.
