The mission of the Hudson-Webber Foundation is to improve the vitality and quality of life in Detroit. The foundation is especially interested in providing seed money to stimulate the development of innovative projects. Once a project is established, the foundation expects that funds from other sources will cover the continuing costs. Grants are made to educational institutions and neighborhood organizations only for projects that further the programs of the foundation. These interest areas are: Physical Revitalization - supports projects designed to increase the concentration and quality of housing, commercial districts, public space, and pedestrian infrastructure. Economic Development -  emphasis on expanding employment opportunities for Detroiters. Arts - support is focused primarily on the organizational development of arts institutions rather than on artistic program development. Safe Community - public safety capacity and programming.  The Foundation is also committed to building a safer environment through contributions to enhance street lighting and walkable spaces. Applicants are encouraged to contact foundation staff to discuss the alignment of the proposed project or program with the foundation’s current priorities before submitting a Letter of Inquiry (LOI). After submitting an LOI, invited applicants may then submit a proposal. The foundation reviews grant proposals during three periods each year: spring, summer, and fall or winter. Letters of Inquiry may be submitted at any time. 5/31
