The Lexington Community Foundation (LCF) provides financial assistance for programs or projects that enhance the quality of life for all residents of the Lexington community. It is the responsibility of the LCF to distribute gifts from donors to a variety of nonprofit organizations that effectively serve the residents of the Lexington community in the charitable fields of human services, education, health, arts and culture, recreation, community and civic, and religion (for nondenominational programs). Each proposal is evaluated on its potential value to the community, and the resourcefulness and credibility of those submitting it. Competitive programs provide an impact that is likely to make a clear difference in the quality of life for a substantial number of people, be sustainable beyond the grant period, and present a project where a moderate amount of grant money can bring about a significant result. The foundation prefers innovative programs that represent an efficient approach to serving community needs and opportunities. Types of funding include capital projects such as construction, remodeling additions to existing buildings, and equipment purchases. Challenge gifts and seed grants are also made. Grant awards are authorized provided that other donors make matching gifts, and to promote leverage for generating additional funds. Applications are accepted at any time, year round. 12/14
