Mitu’s Hybrid Arts Lab Program 2025

Theater Mitu’s Hybrid Arts Lab is a fellowship program designed to support women, trans, and non-binary artists working at the intersection of performance and technology. The program prioritizes early-career BIPOC artists and offers a unique combination of studio and creation space, technical resources, training, and mentorship to help participants develop their artistic practice. The program spans eight months and culminates in a series of public studio visits where fellows present their work and engage the community in conversations about art and technology. For the 2025 cycle, Hybrid Arts Lab will convene a cohort of three artists, each receiving a $3,000 award. In addition to financial support, fellows will have access to five weeks of studio space, equipment, and technology at MITU580, Theater Mitu’s artistic home. The program also provides mentorship from Founding Artistic Director Rubén Polendo, training and workshops with guest artists who specialize in creative uses of technology in performance, and a materials budget to support public presentations. To be eligible, applicants must be local to New York City and able to participate in all in-person program components. Remote or virtual participation will not be allowed. The program is open to BIPOC women, trans, and non-binary artists who are not currently enrolled in degree-granting programs. Participants must demonstrate a commitment to exploring performance and technology, a willingness to acquire new skills, and openness to sharing in-process work with the public. The program runs from April to November 2025, with in-person activities including monthly meetings, guest artist sessions, and two studio periods. The first studio period takes place over two weeks in July, and the second spans three weeks in November. Each studio week requires fellows to dedicate at least 20 hours of work time. The program concludes with public studio visits at the end of the November session. Applications are due by March 10, 2025, with interviews to follow within two weeks. Applicants will be notified of selection by late March 2025. In addition to an online application form, applicants must submit a CV, 2-4 work samples with links or portfolio files, contact information for two references, and a recent photograph.
