DoD Peer Reviewed Medical Research Program, Technology/Therapeutic Development Award
This funding opportunity supports late-stage preclinical research to develop medical products and tools that improve the health and care of U.S. military service members, veterans, and their families.
The Fiscal Year 2025 (FY25) Peer Reviewed Medical Research Program (PRMRP) Technology/Therapeutic Development Award (TTDA) is a funding opportunity offered through the Department of Defense (DoD) under the Defense Health Program. Managed by the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs (CDMRP), this initiative aims to support late-stage preclinical research that advances medical products and knowledge into near-term clinical development for military-relevant health issues. The overarching goal is to enhance the health and care of U.S. military service members, veterans, and their families. The TTDA is designed to fund the transition of existing proof-of-concept technologies into tangible medical products or knowledge-based tools that improve prevention, diagnosis, treatment, or quality of life related to specific FY25 PRMRP topic areas and strategic goals. Examples include drugs, biologics, medical devices, and clinical decision tools. Successful applicants will be expected to reach significant milestones such as FDA regulatory filings (e.g., IND/IDE) or translation of findings into clinical practice. Projects that propose to conduct a clinical trial are not eligible under this award. This grant offers a total program budget of approximately $41.25 million, with individual awards capped at $3.5 million in total costs over a maximum performance period of four years. No cost-sharing is required, and eligible applicants include both extramural (e.g., universities, nonprofits, biotech companies) and intramural DoD organizations. Applications must be led by a Principal Investigator at or above the level of Assistant Professor or equivalent and must be submitted by a qualified organization. Applicants must first submit a pre-application, including a letter of intent, by June 9, 2025, through the eBRAP portal. Full applications are due by July 21, 2025, via Grants.gov for extramural applicants. A subsequent application verification period ends on July 28, 2025. Selected proposals will undergo peer review in September/October 2025, with programmatic review in December 2025. Funding decisions and award notifications are expected no later than September 30, 2026. Evaluation criteria include scientific impact, relevance to the selected topic and strategic goal, feasibility of the research plan, statistical robustness, and the likelihood of successful transition to clinical use or commercialization. Special consideration is given to projects with strong relevance to military health, including use of military populations or collaboration with DoD/VA entities. Applications must be complete, non-duplicative, and follow all format and submission requirements to be considered. For technical assistance or questions, applicants may contact the eBRAP Help Desk or Grants.gov. Compliance with all administrative and national policy requirements is mandatory, including adherence to federal standards for human and animal subjects protections and research integrity.
