Grant Description

The Flint Hills Community Fund Dyslexia and Reading Programs Grant is managed through the Emporia Community Foundation (ECF). This fund is specifically designed to support programs or research initiatives that assist students diagnosed with dyslexia or other reading challenges. The foundation actively seeks opportunities that align with this mission, particularly those that can significantly improve the lives of children facing such difficulties. It also welcomes collaboration with other funding entities to enhance the impact of its grants. Each year, the grant targets applicants from specific counties in Kansas on a rotating basis. The order of eligibility by year is as follows: Chase County (2020), Greenwood County (2021), Lyon County (2022), Morris County (2023), Butler County (2024), and Marion County (2025). For the 2025 grant cycle, only applicants from Marion County are eligible to apply. The grant application must be submitted via email to Linda Kehres-Schmidt, the Executive Director of the ECF, at [email protected]. The application deadline is September 30, 2025. The fund does not support general fundraising efforts, entities with taxing authority except for specific innovative projects, annual drives, individuals, personnel costs, or operating expenses. Furthermore, it does not provide multi-year or pledge funding. Preference is given to projects with substantial volunteer involvement and those from organizations looking to expand but already maintaining stable operational funding. To apply, organizations must complete the designated application form and submit it along with a detailed project budget. Additional documentation is accepted but should be concise. The 2025 funding total available for distribution is $2,400. Applicants are required to provide organizational details, tax identification, contact information, total project cost, amount requested, and a 200-word summary of the proposed project. For assistance, applicants can contact Linda Kehres-Schmidt by phone at (620) 342-9304 or via email.
