Grant Description

This grant aims to develop a maritime strategy for Michigan, focusing on greening, electrification, decarbonization, equity, environmental justice, infrastructure, and sustainability in the state's maritime sector. The strategy will cover commercial shipping, ferries, and recreational boating, supporting the sustainable development of ports and harbors. The project involves extensive stakeholder engagement, including state, local, and federal agencies, tribal governments, port authorities, terminal operators, ship owners, recreational boaters, and community organizations. The strategy will align with Michigan’s MI Healthy Climate Plan, aiming to reduce carbon emissions and prioritize equity and environmental justice. Approximately $200,000 will be provided to one applicant to develop the strategy, with funding from EGLE, MEDC, and MDOT. Eligible applicants include for-profit and non-profit entities, educational institutions, and government units. The grant cannot be used for professional development, large-scale equipment purchases, or construction activities. Applications are due by 5:00 p.m. Eastern time, Thursday, July 25, 2024, and must be submitted via email. Total award amount is up to $200,000. The project period is from October 1, 2024, to September 30, 2025.

Additional Requirements
