The Chatlos Foundation Grant Program
This grant provides funding to established U.S.-based nonprofit organizations for self-sustaining projects that do not involve operational costs or discriminatory practices.
The Chatlos Foundation offers grant opportunities to nonprofit organizations based in the United States that have been in existence for at least two years and hold tax-exempt status as recognized by the IRS. The foundation, established in 1953, primarily prioritizes program support and does not intend to become a regular source of operational funding for organizations. The foundation’s objective is to help fund projects that can ultimately sustain themselves independently of The Chatlos Foundation’s support. Typically, initial funding requests are considered for amounts under $10,000. The foundation’s grantmaking approach emphasizes fairness and the understanding that many deserving organizations may not be funded due to limited resources. Rejections are not reflective of the merit of the applicants. The foundation does not support organizations that engage in discriminatory practices based on race, color, gender, creed, age, or national origin. Additionally, direct scholarship funding to individuals is not provided, although grants may be awarded to educational institutions that select scholarship recipients. The foundation generally does not prioritize funding for bricks and mortar projects, endowments, conference or administrative expenses, or multi-year grants. It remains unreceptive to funding requests related to medical research, support for individual church congregations and related ministries, education below the college level, arts, loans, or organizations that have existed for fewer than two years. The application process is open to all qualifying U.S.-based nonprofit organizations. There are no submission deadlines, and the foundation does not require or accept letters of intent or inquiry. Once a proposal is received, it is reviewed by the Preliminary Review Committee, which meets monthly. Proposals deemed suitable are forwarded to the full Board of Trustees for consideration. The entire review process generally takes about 180 days. Organizations are eligible to receive only one grant per 12-month period and may reapply six months after a denial. Grant recipients are expected to provide reports and updates on the outcomes and successes or failures of their funded projects. Initial in-person meetings are not feasible due to time constraints; only organizations that have received funding may arrange office visits by appointment. All correspondence and inquiries should be directed to the Grant Administrator at The Chatlos Foundation, P.O. Box 915048, Longwood, FL 32791-5048.
