Grant Description

The Community Foundation of Greater Huntsville administers the Racial Equity Fund with a mission to mobilize generosity and improve the quality of life within the community. This fund is specifically designed to address racial opportunity gaps for historically disadvantaged groups in the Greater Huntsville area. By providing grants, the fund aims to alleviate disparities and promote systemic change that supports equitable opportunities across various facets of life. The Racial Equity Fund prioritizes funding for projects that aim to address opportunity gaps in several key areas impacting the quality of life. These areas include art and culture, basic needs, economic opportunity, education, environment, health and wellness, neighborhoods and communities, and recreation. The fund will accept grant applications for both new and ongoing projects that demonstrate clear, measurable outcomes and involve collaborative efforts between multiple organizations. The grant range for this fund is between $5,000 and $15,000. Priority is given to race-informed projects that not only address systemic issues but also involve collaborations between various agencies or organizations. Projects should aim to achieve desired systemic change, deliver tangible results, and strategically address one or more of the opportunity gaps identified by the foundation. Eligible recipients of the fund include 501(c)(3) public charities, schools, religious institutions, and government agencies located within the Greater Huntsville area, which encompasses Jackson, Limestone, Madison, Marshall, and Morgan counties. However, the fund does not support grants for individuals, political activities, endowment campaigns, capital expenses, or various other fundraising-related activities. The application process involves a Letter of Intent (LOI) submission by 5:00 p.m. CDT on Tuesday, March 6, 2025. Following the review of LOI submissions, approximately 10-15 organizations will be invited to submit full applications, which are due by April 30, 2025. Final decisions will be made by the end of May 2025, and the funds will be distributed during the Community Foundation’s Equity in Action Tour on June 18, 2025. Grantees will be required to sign a Grant Agreement and report on the use of the funds and the outcomes achieved as a result of their funded projects. For further information, applicants can contact Ann Kvach at ann@givehsv.org or by phone at 256-489-3525.
