Grant Description

The Women’s Philanthropy Society, a program rooted in empowering women and led by women, is committed to fostering systemic change and enhancing community well-being. Founded with the vision to leave a lasting legacy of compassion and progress, the Society concentrates on funding initiatives that create meaningful and measurable improvements in the lives of women and families. Operated under the guidance of the Community Foundation of Greater Huntsville, the Society focuses its philanthropic efforts on critical issues that influence the overall quality of life in the region. For the 2025 grant cycle, the Society has designated “Safety & Security” as its thematic priority. The aim is to support initiatives that address systemic challenges and enhance safety and security for women and families within the Greater Huntsville, Alabama area. This area includes the counties of Jackson, Limestone, Madison, Marshall, and Morgan. A Community Conversation held on February 28, 2025, featuring local leaders such as Probate Judge Frank Barger and City Planner Lauretta Moore, highlighted key concerns and potential opportunities in this focus area. Feedback from this event is accessible via the Community Foundation’s website. The 2025 grant program plans to distribute up to two high-impact grants of $50,000 each. Projects that strategically align with the theme of Safety & Security, demonstrate collaborative approaches involving multiple agencies, target systemic change, and offer clear, measurable outcomes will be prioritized. Funded activities can include both new and ongoing programs, support for volunteer training, and capital expenses related to project implementation. However, funds cannot be used for individuals, debt reduction, endowments, political activities, or typical campaign or event expenses. Eligibility for this grant is limited to qualified 501(c)(3) public charities, educational institutions, religious organizations, and government entities—provided the funds are used for public purposes—operating in the Greater Huntsville area. Non-compliant organizations and uses outside the scope of the specified public benefit purposes are ineligible. To apply, interested organizations must first submit a Letter of Intent (LOI) via the specified online portal by 5:00 p.m. CT on Tuesday, July 15, 2025. The Grants Committee will evaluate all LOI submissions and inform applicants of their status by mid-August 2025. Selected organizations—expected to be between 10 and 15—will then be invited to submit full applications, which are due by September 15, 2025. Final funding decisions will be announced by mid-October 2025. The application and grant review process is managed by the Women’s Philanthropy Society’s Grants Committee under the authority of the Community Foundation’s Board of Directors.
