Grant Description

The Greenwall Foundation is seeking proposals for its 2025 Bridging Bioethics Research & Policymaking grant initiative. The Greenwall Foundation is a private 501(c)(3) foundation dedicated to supporting the integration of bioethics into public policy. The initiative is designed to help bioethics researchers and policymakers move beyond research and translate findings into actionable policy efforts. The Foundation emphasizes that this program does not fund bioethics research itself but instead supports efforts to bridge the gap between research and policy. As advances in healthcare, science, and technology continue to evolve rapidly, they bring forth new ethical questions and dilemmas. The Greenwall Foundation recognizes the importance of ensuring that bioethics informs policymaking so that decision-makers can better address these challenges. The grant initiative is open to a wide range of approaches for integrating bioethics into policy and encourages creative and practical mechanisms. While the Foundation does not prescribe specific project formats, examples include creating digestible formats of bioethics research for policymakers and scaling evidence-based policy solutions. The Foundation explicitly states that publishing in academic journals is unlikely to be a supported mechanism. Eligible applicants include affiliated individuals at institutions with U.S. tax-exempt status. Partnerships with policymakers and professionals from outside academia are encouraged. The Foundation will not fund direct or grassroots lobbying, in line with its status as a private foundation. However, it will support nonpartisan education, analyses, and similar efforts. Projects should involve diverse professional expertise where appropriate, including policy, communications, and data visualization. The Foundation also prioritizes inclusivity in bioethics and values projects that reflect a wide range of perspectives and voices. Grant funding under this initiative is capped at $50,000. Projects with smaller budgets and shorter timelines will receive priority in funding decisions. Applicants must submit their proposals via the Foundation’s online grant system. The application requirements include a brief abstract, a three-page narrative covering specific aspects of the project, a publication or summary of the bioethics research to be translated, CVs of the project lead and up to two team members, a detailed budget using the Foundation’s form, and optional supplemental materials such as letters of support. The three-page narrative must address the relevant bioethics research findings, the policy gap or challenge, the proposed bridging mechanism, and the team's experience in effecting policy change. Applications are due by July 21, 2025, at 11:59 pm ET. Projects may start on or after October 1, 2025, but no later than January 1, 2026. Applicants will be notified of funding decisions in late August or early September. Questions about the initiative should be directed to Kyle Ruempler at [email protected]. Applicants experiencing technical issues with the online portal should contact [email protected]. The Foundation advises applicants to log in and prepare their submissions in advance to avoid technical delays. Full details, including a preview of the application form and examples of past funded projects, are available on the Foundation’s website.
