Urban and Community Forestry Planning Grant Program

The Urban and Community Forestry Planning Grant Program, funded by the USDA Forest Service and managed by DEEP, offers grants ranging from $2,500 to $65,000 for local government organizations and nonprofit 501(c)(3) groups. A 50:50 match is required, which can include financial contributions, in-kind goods, or services. This funding aims to help municipalities and nonprofits implement sustainable, data-driven forestry practices. Funds can be used to create or update resources like inventories or management plans. Past projects include city-wide tree inventories, neighborhood-specific surveys, and urban canopy action plans. Applications must show how projects will improve forest management outcomes. Eligible applicants are local governments and nonprofit 501(c)(3) organizations. Proposals are evaluated based on clarity, alignment with program goals, and long-term impact, with an emphasis on equity and sustainability. Applicants must provide detailed budget and timeline information using program templates. Applications are due by January 31, 2025, at 5:00 PM, submitted via Survey123.
