ASH Global Research Award
This award provides funding to emerging hematology researchers outside the U.S. and Canada to support their independent projects and foster global collaboration in the field.
The ASH Global Research Award, offered by the American Society of Hematology, aims to support emerging international scientific leaders, enhance hematology capacity, and foster global collaboration. This award is specifically designed for hematologists who have completed their training and are in the process of establishing their independent careers. The award is open to applicants based outside of the United States and Canada, who must be members of ASH in good standing and hold an MD, PhD, MD-PhD, or an equivalent degree. The funding provided by the Global Research Award can support projects for up to three years, with a maximum request of $100,000 for projects lasting one year or less, and up to $150,000 for projects extending beyond one year. The exact funding amount is contingent on the project's requirements and regional costs. Eligible projects include basic, translational, patient-oriented, and outcomes-based hematology research, as well as training opportunities such as pilot studies, collaborative projects, and career development proposals. Applicants are required to have both a local mentor and a global mentor, with the latter being from a different region or country than the applicant's residence. At least one of the mentors must be an ASH Active or International member. The application process begins with the submission of a mandatory Letter of Intent (LOI) through the ASH online awards system. The LOI should detail the proposed project and timeline, funding outline, mentorship plans, career level, and include the applicant's Curriculum Vitae. The evaluation process involves a review of all submitted LOIs, after which selected applicants will be invited to submit a full proposal. The final application deadline for invited applicants is in April 2026, with award winners being notified by July 2026. Applicants from low- and middle-income countries who submit an LOI for the Global Research Award will also be considered for the Explorer Pathway Program, which offers a year-long career development opportunity and $20,000 in support. Key dates for the application process include the opening of LOI submissions on March 1, 2025, and the LOI deadline on September 2, 2025. Eligibility notifications will be sent in January 2026. For any inquiries regarding the award or application process, applicants can contact the ASH Awards Department at awards@hematology.org or by phone at 202-776-0544.
