Science and Research Grant Program
This funding opportunity supports scientific research projects that improve understanding of local ecosystems and species in East Contra Costa County, encouraging collaboration among academic institutions, nonprofits, and government agencies.
The East Contra Costa County Habitat Conservancy invites proposals for its 2025 Science and Research Grant Program. This local funding opportunity supports scientific studies that contribute to the goals and implementation of the East Contra Costa County Habitat Conservation Plan/Natural Community Conservation Plan (HCP/NCCP). Eligible projects must enhance understanding of the region's natural communities and the 28 species covered under the Plan, including research on habitat restoration techniques, species responses to management actions, and innovative monitoring strategies. This year’s grant cycle offers up to $30,000 per project for a maximum 2-year term. Proposals with 25% or more matching funds (cash or in-kind) are more competitive. Funding may cover direct research costs such as staffing, equipment, and travel, with a cap of 5% on overhead. The program encourages proposals from a diverse range of organizations including academic institutions, nonprofits, consulting firms, and government agencies. Collaborative proposals are welcome. Projects must occur within the HCP/NCCP Inventory Area. Topics of interest include ecological restoration techniques, habitat use by target species, and improvements to adaptive land management. Proposals that address information gaps and engage students or the public through outreach are especially encouraged. Applications are due by 5:00 p.m. PT on August 4, 2025, and should be submitted via email to Maureen Parkes at [email protected]. Selected applicants will be notified after the August 25, 2025 Governing Board meeting, with work beginning as early as mid-September 2025. More information, including a list of eligible lands for research and potential research questions, is available in the RFP and its attachments on the Conservancy’s website.
