Turf Replacement Grant Program

The Turf Replacement Grant Program, launched by the Colorado Water Conservation Board (CWCB), aims to support community programs that help eligible entities replace nonessential turf to reduce outdoor watering. This initiative is part of legislation passed in 2022 and provides matching funds to incentivize the voluntary replacement of high-water-use turf with water-wise landscapes. The program encourages the development of efficient irrigation systems and transformative landscape changes. Applications must be submitted via the CWCB Portal, accompanied by a Statement of Work and a Budget and Timeline. The program guidelines were updated in July 2024, and the CWCB is committed to managing the grant process effectively. Eligible entities include local governments, districts, 501(c)(3) nonprofits, and Colorado's federally recognized tribes. Ineligible entities include single-family homeowners, homeowners' associations, and commercial entities. The application deadlines are set for October 31 and February 28, with board reviews following shortly after. The program emphasizes the importance of turf replacement for water conservation and encourages community involvement in its development.
