Grant Description

The Choose Iowa Value-Added Agriculture Grant program is designed to support projects that enhance the use of Iowa agricultural products, driving innovation and economic growth in the state’s farming sector. The program seeks to fund initiatives that can significantly increase the volume of Iowa-grown products, create jobs, and foster long-term investments. Grant funds are disbursed on a reimbursement basis, with eligible projects running from April 2025 to April 2026. Grant applications are evaluated based on five key criteria. First, the project’s potential impact accounts for 20 points, focusing on how realistically it can increase the use of Iowa agricultural products while benefiting many farmers. Proposals should demonstrate both short-term outcomes, such as job creation, and long-term impacts, including economic investments in Iowa. Second, business readiness and financial sustainability are valued at 15 points. Applicants must show they manage their business effectively, possess financial stability, and clearly need the funding to achieve their project goals. The third criterion, budget and matching funds, holds 20 points and requires a detailed, cost-effective budget. Applicants must clearly explain their private matching funds and provide documentation, such as vendor quotes, for planned expenditures. Fourth, the work plan and timeline are worth 15 points and should include a thorough, realistic breakdown of the project steps with estimated completion dates. Finally, measurable objectives account for 10 points and must clearly define how the project aligns with the grant’s goals, with benefits to both the business and the agricultural community. The application process opened on December 2, 2024, with a strict deadline of noon CST on January 31, 2025. Applications will be reviewed and scored in February and March 2025, and successful applicants will be notified in April. Grant agreements must be signed before purchasing or implementation can begin, and funds will be reimbursed during the project term as expenses are incurred. This grant represents an important opportunity for businesses to innovate and support Iowa’s agricultural sector. Prospective applicants should download the Choose Iowa Value-Added Grant Guidelines for detailed instructions and ensure their proposals align with the program’s objectives, timelines, and evaluation criteria. By participating, businesses can contribute to strengthening Iowa’s farming economy while advancing their operations.
