Community Reinvestment Program 2024
This program provides $5 million in funding to nonprofit organizations in New York State to support mental health, workforce development, or housing initiatives for individuals aged 0-24 in communities disproportionately impacted by past drug policies.
The Community Reinvestment Program allocates grants to 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations in New York State to address the needs of communities disproportionately affected by past federal and state drug policies. Funded through the Cannabis Revenue Fund, which dedicates 40% of cannabis tax revenue to impacted areas, the program aims to benefit underserved, under-resourced, and over-policed communities. For 2024, $5 million in total funding is available, with each grant providing $100,000. In its first grant cycle, only organizations serving individuals aged 0-24 in designated areas are eligible to apply. Funded activities must align with one of three focus areas: Mental Health, Workforce Development, or Housing. Applicants do not need to have any affiliation with cannabis-related businesses or activities. While the current cycle focuses on youth services, the program's scope can change annually based on guidance from the Cannabis Advisory Board. Future grants may fund diverse initiatives, such as job placement, education, mental health and substance use treatment, housing assistance, child care, legal services for reentry, and more. The program also supports activities related to social and economic equity goals established by the Cannabis Control Board. Interested nonprofits can begin the application process through the program's website. Applicants should ensure their proposed activities directly serve young people and align with one of the current focus areas. Competitive procurements will guide future funding opportunities, adapting to evolving community needs as directed by the Cannabis Advisory Board.
