Grant Description

The Western Reserve Health Foundation, focused on enhancing health outcomes within Mahoning County, supports efforts that address health disparities shaped by structural, cultural, and geographical influences. The Foundation emphasizes the importance of recognizing diverse lived experiences among populations such as racial and ethnic minorities, women, LGBTQIA+ individuals, people with disabilities, and those in urban or rural communities. By doing so, the Foundation aims to ensure equitable access to health and well-being across all demographics. Grants awarded by the Foundation align with the current priorities outlined in the 2023–2025 Mahoning County Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP). These include addressing mental health and substance abuse, enhancing access to care, and improving community conditions and safety. Proposals that present innovative, evidence-based solutions or community coalition-driven approaches receive prioritized consideration. Additionally, initiatives supporting cancer patients and their families are recognized as critical focus areas. Proposals are evaluated for their inclusion of individuals with lived experiences, clearly defined goals, and use of qualitative and quantitative data. The Foundation encourages applicants to address root causes such as poverty and racial inequity and to consider how systemic change in policy, environment, and infrastructure can promote equitable health outcomes. Collaborations across sectors—public health, education, government, healthcare—are highly valued, and leveraging additional funding sources is expected. The grant cycle operates with three key deadlines annually: April 15, July 15, and October 15. Applications may be submitted at any time, but they will be reviewed in the cycle following their submission date. Funding decisions are typically made within three months of the corresponding deadline. Applicants are encouraged to engage with the Healthy Community Partnership, a regional initiative aligned with CHIP goals. Those not yet involved can connect with Sarah Lowry at slowry@cfmv.org or 330-743-5555 for guidance. All applications must be submitted through the online grant portal linked on the Foundation’s website.
