Grant Description

The Pulitzer Center has announced the opening of applications for the 2025 Information and Artificial Intelligence Teacher Advisory Council, an initiative focused on supporting K-12 educators in navigating AI accountability through journalism-based engagement. This program is part of the Pulitzer Center’s broader Information and AI initiatives, which aim to deepen public understanding of the use and impact of predictive and surveillance technologies by governments and corporations across critical sectors such as policing, medicine, criminal justice, and employment. The advisory council is structured to build educator capacity in addressing AI ethics and accountability within classrooms. Through participation in a series of six virtual workshops, selected educators will explore underreported news stories about AI and collaborate with Pulitzer Center journalists. The workshops are designed to facilitate discussion and resource development that will aid other educators in integrating AI ethics into their curricula. Council members will use existing toolkits and reporting from the Pulitzer Center’s AI Accountability Network to create and deliver professional learning workshops. Council participants will be responsible for hosting a training session for at least 20 educators in their schools or districts by early fall 2025. They will also contribute to the development of public-facing educational resources and participate in a final virtual showcase in November 2025. Training materials developed during the program will be incorporated into learning modules on the Pulitzer Center’s website, broadening their reach to educators nationally. Eligibility is open to current K-12 educators and administrators across public, charter, independent, and alternative schools in the United States and U.S. territories. Applicants must remain in their educational roles through the end of 2025 and be capable of hosting educator training sessions. Strong internet access and proper virtual participation tools are also required. Commitment from school leadership or a role that facilitates educator training is necessary to ensure successful implementation. The stipend for Council members totals $600, distributed in two payments. Additional incentives include a digital badge and a certificate for 20 hours of professional development. Applicants must complete an education interest survey and submit it by the final application deadline of May 16, 2025. The Pulitzer Center encourages applications from educators serving or identifying with historically marginalized communities as part of their DEI commitments. For additional questions, applicants can contact the Pulitzer Center’s Education team via email at education@pulitzercenter.org. The organization’s main contact number is (202) 332-0982, and its office is located at 2000 Pennsylvania Ave NW, Suite #7000, Washington, DC 20006.
