Grant Description

The FY25 Melanoma Survivorship Research Award (SRA) is a funding opportunity managed by the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs (CDMRP) under the U.S. Army Medical Research and Development Command. Funded by the Defense Health Program, this award targets the relatively underfunded field of melanoma-specific survivorship. The focus is on innovative, impactful research that aims to enhance the quality of life and overall well-being of melanoma survivors, their families, and caregivers. The grant particularly emphasizes the development of evidence-based practices, behavioral health science interventions, and research into psychosocial outcomes. It also allows for clinical trials and mandates active collaboration with melanoma consumers—defined as survivors, family members, or caregivers—or community-supporting organizations. Eligible applicants include both extramural and intramural organizations, encompassing academic institutions, for-profits, non-profits, public and private entities, as well as foreign and domestic applicants. Principal Investigators must be independent investigators at any career level, excluding individuals in mentored positions. The program does not require cost sharing, and awards are made to organizations, not individuals. The total program funding available is approximately $2.03 million, with the intention to fund up to two applications, each capped at a total cost of $1.015 million over a three-year period. Applications must demonstrate a significant potential for real-world impact, and must include a melanoma consumer collaborator who is actively involved in the planning and implementation of the research. The program excludes studies that solely use animal models or focus exclusively on survival outcomes without considering quality of life or functionality. Applications follow a two-step submission process. A Letter of Intent is due by September 10, 2025, through the eBRAP system, and full applications must be submitted by October 1, 2025. Applications can be submitted via Grants.gov (for extramural applicants) or eBRAP (for intramural DOD applicants). Applicants must also be registered in SAM.gov and maintain an active status. Evaluation is conducted in two stages: peer review and programmatic review. The peer review assesses criteria such as research strategy and feasibility, impact, the PI’s credentials, melanoma consumer collaboration, and the post-award transition plan. Applications involving clinical trials are subject to additional review standards. Successful applicants will receive award notifications by email and via eBRAP, typically within six weeks of the programmatic review. Key contacts include the eBRAP Help Desk (help@eBRAP.org, 301-682-5507) for submission-related support and the Grants.gov Contact Center (support@grants.gov, 800-518-4726) for registration assistance. All applications must be fully verified by October 7, 2025. Awards will be announced by September 30, 2026, and the funds must be used by September 30, 2031.
