2025 Discover Ames Community Grant Program
This grant provides financial support to organizations in Ames, Iowa, for cultural, educational, recreational, or artistic events that enhance community life and attract visitors.
The Discover Ames Community Grant Program is administered by Discover Ames, also known as the Ames Convention and Visitors Bureau. This grant initiative supports a broad spectrum of public events and activities that enhance the quality of life for residents of Ames, Iowa, and attract visitors to the region. Now entering its 20th year, the program has awarded over $1.3 million in grants since inception. The program operates annually and is adjudicated by the Discover Ames Grant Committee, which evaluates applications based on merit and recommends awards to the Discover Ames Board of Directors for final approval. The primary purpose of the grant is to develop events and activities that are cultural, educational, recreational, or artistic in nature. The intention is not only to benefit local residents but also to improve the experience for visitors to the Ames area. Events that bring new audiences or showcase unique aspects of the community are especially encouraged. Discover Ames seeks to fund proposals that show innovation and broad community engagement. Eligible applicants include both public and private organizations with a demonstrated capability to implement the proposed event or activity successfully. A completed application form is required for consideration. The main grant cycle concludes with a committee review during the fourth quarter of the year, followed by a recommendation process that leads to final board approval. All applicants should be prepared to provide additional information upon request during the review process. In addition to the annual community grants, Discover Ames offers a limited number of special request community grants. These are intended for new or one-time special events occurring within the current calendar year and fall outside the traditional grant application cycle. Applications for these special request grants must be submitted separately and will be considered on a rolling basis. For the 2026 grant cycle, applications will open in July 2025 and the final submission deadline is October 10, 2025. Over $92,000 was awarded in 2025 to 37 organizations, demonstrating the program’s continued commitment to community enrichment. Examples of funded projects include music festivals, art exhibits, cultural celebrations, and community service events.
