United Midcoast Charities Grant 2025

United Midcoast Charities (UMC) provides financial support and guidance to nonprofits in Midcoast Maine, strengthening a network of services that address critical community needs. The organization focuses on four key areas: food, housing, health and safety, and economic security. Through its competitive grant program, UMC funds operational and programmatic needs for nonprofit organizations serving individuals and families in Knox and Waldo counties. UMC does not fund capital campaigns, endowments, debt reduction, lobbying activities, annual appeals, sponsorships of events, conferences, seminars, or private schools. The grant application period for 2025 opens on March 1 and closes on March 31. Applications must be submitted online through UMC’s portal, and paper applications are not accepted. All applications undergo a rigorous review process led by UMC’s Grants Committee, which evaluates submissions, conducts site visits, and recommends funding allocations to the UMC Board of Directors. The Board makes final funding decisions, which are communicated to applicants in late August. UMC offers two types of grants: General Support Grants, which provide flexible funding for organizations whose mission aligns entirely with UMC’s focus areas, and Program Grants, which support specific programs within a broader organizational mission that aligns with UMC's focus. Grant amounts range from $1,000 to $25,000, and awards are determined based on the project scope, alignment with UMC’s priorities, and available funds. While UMC strives to fully fund impactful proposals, demand for funding consistently exceeds available resources. Successful applicants may be required to participate in site visits and agency presentations as part of the review process. Final grant reports for previous funding cycles are due on July 1 of the following year. While interim reports are no longer required, organizations that received funding in 2024 must submit their final reports before applying for new grants.
