Community Based Participatory Research To Advance DAta and Practice Transformation (ADAPT) For Optimizing Oral Health For All Across the Lifespan (UG3/UH3 Clinical Trial Optional)
This grant provides funding for organizations to conduct community-based research aimed at improving oral health through collaborative interventions that address social factors and promote health equity across all age groups.
The National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR), a component of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), is preparing to launch a new funding opportunity focused on advancing oral health through community-based participatory research. The initiative, titled “Community Based Participatory Research To Advance DAta and Practice Transformation (ADAPT) For Optimizing Oral Health For All Across the Lifespan,” aims to address the burden of oral disease by leveraging population-based interventions that integrate services, systems, and values across multiple sectors. This grant program is intended to support cooperative agreement research applications under the UG3/UH3 mechanism. Projects will be designed to evaluate, implement, and test interventions related to community policies, programs, or practices that influence health, particularly those addressing the common risk factors and social determinants contributing to chronic and oral diseases. These interventions must involve cross-sector partnerships and emphasize transformative community engagement. Awardees of this grant will participate in a larger collaborative structure—the ADAPT CBPR Consortium. This consortium will work in tandem with a separately funded Community Engagement Evaluation and Data Coordination hub (CEED), benefiting from consultative support through the NIH’s Community Engagement Alliance Consultative Resource (CEACR). All funded projects will also contribute to and benefit from the Science Collaborative for Health disparities and Artificial intelligence Reduction of Errors (SCHARE) platform, reinforcing the initiative’s emphasis on data-driven, equity-focused public health transformation. Although the notice indicates that applications are not yet being accepted, it is being issued in advance to give potential applicants ample time to form collaborative partnerships and design eligible, impactful projects. The forecasted posting date is July 3, 2025, and the anticipated application due date is October 7, 2025. Award decisions are expected by July 1, 2026, with projects scheduled to commence on the same date. A wide array of organizations is eligible to apply, including nonprofits, for-profit organizations (excluding small businesses), educational institutions, tribal entities, housing authorities, and local or state governments. There are no matching fund requirements, and specific funding amounts, such as ceilings, floors, or total program funding, have not yet been disclosed. Interested applicants can reach out to Hiroko Iida, DDS, MPH at the National Institute of Dental & Craniofacial Research for more information.
