Grant Description

The Unified Government Hollywood Casino Fund is a grantmaking initiative administered by the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation. The fund supports programs that align with the goals of Healthy Communities Wyandotte by promoting access to healthy food and active living among residents of Wyandotte County, Kansas. The fund seeks to encourage long-term, community-driven health improvements, particularly through programs that are culturally relevant and leverage local infrastructure. Applications for the 2025 grant cycle will be available starting March 1, 2025. The application deadline is April 21, 2025, by 5:00 p.m. Central Time. An optional informational webinar will be held on March 4, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. Central. Award notifications will be distributed in July 2025. Applicants must be nonprofit organizations with valid 501(c)(3) status. Requests for general operating support will only be considered if the funding will significantly expand services. Funded activities must be completed within one year, and all grantees will be required to report participant zip code data, an interim report (due March 2026), and a final report (due July 2026). There is no fixed minimum or maximum grant amount. In 2024, awards ranged from $500 to $24,000, with an average award size of $6,000. Proposals will be evaluated for their ability to reach at-risk or underserved populations, demonstrate alignment with the county’s Comprehensive Plan and Healthy Communities Wyandotte initiatives, leverage additional funding, minimize program duplication, and provide measurable, reportable outcomes. Collaboration among service providers is also encouraged. Funding will not be awarded to capital or endowment campaigns, annual appeals, debt repayment, political or lobbying activities, or direct support to individuals. Equipment costs are eligible only if they directly improve service delivery. Programs that benefit members of sectarian, religious, fraternal, athletic, or veterans groups are also ineligible unless the benefit extends broadly to the community. The application process is managed via SurveyMonkey Apply. New applicants must register for an account, and returning users should contact grants@growyourgiving.org or call 816.627.3452 for assistance with access. Terrell Brown, the program contact, is available to assist with questions about the grant or application process.
