The Kentucky Secretary of State is hosting a statewide Essay and Slogan Contest to engage students in active citizenship and civic awareness. The essay contest is open to high school students in grades 9-12, while the slogan contest invites participation from middle school students in grades 6-8. Winners will receive prizes and recognition in a public ceremony hosted by Secretary of State Michael G. Adams. High school students are tasked with responding to the essay prompt: “What can Kentuckians do to ensure that voters are well informed on policies and candidates?” Essays must be no longer than 1,000 words. Middle school students are encouraged to craft a slogan that promotes voter awareness of policies and candidates. Submissions can be made online or mailed to the Office of the Secretary of State at the address provided. The deadline for all entries is 5 p.m. EST on Friday, January 31, 2025. The contest seeks to inspire civic engagement among Kentucky's youth and highlight the importance of informed voting.
