Grant Description

The FY25 Cooke Foundation Grant aims to support significant community endeavors in Hawaiʻi that promote the betterment and welfare of its people. Priority interests include arts, culture, humanities, education, environment, and human services. Grants are generally awarded up to $20,000, with occasional larger awards. In 2023, 24% of applications received funding, with six grants above $20,000 and an average award of $12,500 for others. Eligible applicants must be 501(c)(3) public charities or have a fiscal sponsor with this status. The foundation does not fund loans, endowments, re-granting, religious programs, or direct cash payments to individuals. Completed applications must be submitted online by 4:00 pm HST on the deadline dates. The first deadline for FY25 is August 1, 2024, with a trustee meeting in November 2024. A second-round deadline will be announced later, with the trustee meeting in May 2025. Final reports are due no later than 13 months after the award date.

Requests for more than $5,000 should demonstrate that the Cooke Foundation portion does not exceed 30 percent of the total project budget. Multi-year funding may be provided with payments released annually contingent on satisfactory progress reports.
