AWS Hayward Fund
This initiative provides financial and technical support to individuals and organizations in Hayward, California, for community-driven projects that promote education, sustainability, economic development, and health.
The AWS Hayward Fund is an initiative supported by Amazon Web Services (AWS) aimed at fostering community-driven projects in Hayward, California. This fund is part of AWS's broader mission to be a good neighbor and catalyze innovative, meaningful initiatives in the communities where it operates. With a total fund of $100,000, the program offers financial and technical support to individuals or organizations seeking to initiate or expand community projects. Applicants can receive up to $10,000 in funding per project, along with access to expert guides, step-by-step plans, and continuous support from the ChangeX team. The fund's primary objectives are to support projects that promote STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math) education, sustainability, economic development and leadership, community building, and health and well-being. Whether applicants choose from a list of proven ideas or propose their own initiatives, the goal is to empower residents to effect positive and lasting change in their communities. Projects like composting programs, plastic waste reuse, school gardens, mental health initiatives, and neighborhood food pantries have previously received support. Funding is distributed in two phases. Applicants first receive an initial portion to launch their projects after successfully completing a 30 Day Challenge, which involves building out a project page and taking steps to mobilize community involvement. The final portion of funding is released once the applicant reports back on the impact of their project. For proven ideas, funding is awarded on a first-come, first-served basis to those who complete the challenge. For original ideas, all applications are reviewed after the December 15, 2024, deadline, with notifications sent by January 31, 2025. Eligibility criteria include that projects must take place in Hayward, California and fall under at least one of the supported themes. If an applicant is seeking more than $5,000, they must be a registered U.S. charity and provide an EIN number. All applicants must be at least 18 years old or have guardian permission to apply. Applications for original project ideas closed on December 15, 2024. The announcement of selected projects will occur by January 31, 2025. Those accepted must complete setup steps within 30 days to begin project implementation. While this fund has closed, ChangeX allows users to initiate projects without funding or explore other active funds in their area.
