Grant Description

The City of New Orleans, in partnership with the Greater New Orleans Foundation, is participating in Round 2 of the Bloomberg Philanthropies Youth Climate Action Fund. This initiative provides $100,000 in grant funding to support at least 17 youth-led climate projects in New Orleans, following the city’s successful participation in the first round. The fund aims to empower young people to become leaders in climate resilience through direct project funding, mentorship, and opportunities to work with city officials on sustainability efforts. The Youth Climate Action Fund Micro-Grant Program invites applications from youth aged 15 to 24 who reside in Orleans Parish. Eligible projects must align with at least one of the City’s Climate Action Plan priorities, including energy efficiency, transportation, nature-based solutions, circular economy and waste reduction, or climate data, research, and engagement. All projects must be submitted by a youth-serving organization that holds 501(c)(3) status or has a fiscal sponsor capable of managing grant funds. Funding awards for each project will range from $1,000 to $5,000, with grants issued through the Greater New Orleans Foundation. Funded projects are expected to be completed by October 31, 2025. In addition to funding, selected projects will receive mentorship, access to city resources, and opportunities to participate in public events such as the in-person Kick-Off Celebration with the Mayor and the Mayoral engagement event at the Katrina 20 Summit. The application process includes several opportunities for support, including an informational webinar on February 25, 2025, and virtual office hours on March 10 and March 12, 2025. Applications are due by March 17, 2025, with grantees announced on Earth Day, April 22, 2025. Successful applicants must demonstrate a clear climate impact, strong youth leadership, and a focus on equity and sustainability. Each project must have at least three youth project leads, and projects should prioritize diverse, community-driven solutions with potential for long-term integration into the City’s climate programs. All inquiries and requests for assistance should be directed to the Mayor's Office of Youth and Families at youthandfamilies@nola.gov or by calling 504-658-8787. Additional information, including application materials in English and Spanish, is available on the City of New Orleans website.
