Pier Wind Funding
This funding initiative provides financial support for the development of a floating offshore wind terminal at the Port of Long Beach, aimed at boosting California's renewable energy efforts and creating thousands of jobs in the green sector.
The Long Beach Board of Harbor Commissioners has committed to advancing Pier Wind, a proposed 400-acre terminal at the Port of Long Beach for floating offshore wind turbines. This initiative aims to help California achieve its renewable energy goals and is expected to create a reliable electric grid, enhance air quality, and reduce reliance on fossil fuels. The project is anticipated to support 4,200 jobs during construction and 1,800 green sector jobs during operations, with potential for thousands more in the supply chain. The Harbor Commission has agreed to commit up to $14 million in matching funds for a state grant and authorized $6.5 million from the Portโs capital budget for environmental documentation and project delivery activities. A preliminary economic impact analysis estimates that Pier Wind could generate $8 billion in labor income, $14.5 billion in economic output, and $1.3 billion in state and local taxes by 2045.
