Grant Description

The Litter Enforcement Grant, managed by PalmettoPride, is designed to support South Carolina’s litter control, law enforcement, and code enforcement agencies with up to $5,000 in funding to enhance litter prevention and enforcement efforts. Eligible applicants include relevant departments and organizations throughout South Carolina, with a restriction of one grant per cycle per organization. Joint projects can receive only one award. All grantees must participate in the Zero Tolerance for Litter Campaign, and organizations that have not complied with previous grant requirements will be ineligible for new funding. This competitive grant covers expenses related to equipment and resources essential for litter control, including surveillance cameras, laptops, binoculars, and materials for managing illegal dumpsites. Additional eligible items include heavy-duty OSHA materials, safety signs, and supplies for recurring cleanup initiatives. The grant also provides support for tarp campaigns, community cleanup activities, and up to $1,500 for conference attendance or travel related to litter enforcement. PalmettoPride supplements the funding with in-kind donations such as illegal dump signs, tarps, gloves, vests, grabbers, and branded trash bags. Grant reporting is required for all recipients, detailing expenditures and program outcomes to ensure accountability. Past recipients of the Litter Enforcement Grant include diverse entities like the Aiken County Code Enforcement, City of Greenville, and South Carolina Department of Natural Resources branches, which received amounts up to $6,500 to bolster their litter enforcement capabilities. The application period is from September 1 to December 1, with awards announced on January 15. For further guidance, applicants may contact Sherryl Jenkins, the Grant Program Manager at PalmettoPride.
