2024 Lex Grow Trees Grant Program

The Lex Grow Trees grant program, funded by the Lexington Urban County Council, aims to address tree canopy loss and inequities across Lexington. Following a commitment of $1.5 million in 2022 from city funds, the program supports community-driven projects focused on expanding, maintaining, and educating about Lexington’s urban tree canopy. The initiative is managed by the Division of Environmental Services with guidance from the Tree Canopy Ad Hoc Committee, which shaped the Lex Grow Trees campaign to ensure equitable canopy coverage and effective community engagement. Eligible applicants may apply for grants up to $100,000, with funding available in time for spring 2025 planting. The program prioritizes four areas: community mobilization of tree advocates, tree planting, maintenance, and educational initiatives to raise awareness of the importance of tree coverage in urban spaces. Community groups, nonprofits, and other stakeholders are encouraged to participate. Interested applicants can join a virtual information session on October 28 for additional guidance on the application process and program goals.
