Maine Tourism Development & Management Grant
The Maine Tourism Development & Management Grant is designed to foster tourism development, education, and management projects in Maine that aim to enhance collaboration among key destination organizations, create sustainable growth within the tourism sector, and provide qualified technical and consulting assistance. The grant supports projects that align with the Maine Office of Tourism's Destination Management Plan and prioritize sustainable and inclusive tourism. Applications are accepted annually, with grants ranging from $15,000 to $40,000. Eligible projects include tourism product development, stewardship planning, visitor education programs, strategic planning related to tourism, and the creation of educational or interpretive signage to improve the visitor experience. A 25% cash match is required to ensure regional and community support for the projects. Ineligible uses of funding include marketing campaigns, special events, for-profit organizations, administrative costs, and construction projects. The grant emphasizes the importance of advancing off-season tourism, promoting the value of tourism, and developing inclusive travel opportunities. GRANT ELIGIBILITY • Organizations may not hold more than one (1) Maine Office of Tourism grant contract per fiscal year. • Applicant organizations must be a Maine municipality, tribal government, Mainebased 501C3 or C6 or L3C that is responsible for developing, promoting and managing tourism on behalf of a destination such as a: o Destination marketing organization o Chamber of Commerce o Non-profit trade organization representing tourism businesses in a destination area • Applicants must receive preliminary approval to apply from the MOT Grant Program Administrator. (See above for LOI deadline & contact info) • Projects must be able to be completed within the twelve (12) month period of the grant contract. • Applicants must meet at least one of these criteria: 1. Have completed a past successful Enterprise Grant Project with documented positive impacts and results, OR 2. Be located within a region, community, or destination that has completed the MOT Community Destination Academy Program, OR 3. The grant project supports sustainable growth of Maine’s tourism economy as outlined in the MOT Destination Management Plan • Organizations must be in good standing as of the application deadline with the Secretary of State (not applicable to municipalities).
