Grant Description

The Mental Health Screening in Schools (MHSS) grant program provides supplemental funding to support Local Education Agencies (LEAs) in implementing depression screening programs for students in grades seven through twelve. This continuation grant is available exclusively to the 11 LEAs that were previously selected through a competitive process during the first project period of the School-Based Mental Health Services (SBMHS) grant program. The initiative aims to identify students at risk of depression and related symptoms, enhancing early intervention efforts within schools. The grant awards for project period 2 will range from $59,242 to $82,593 per recipient, based on student enrollment. The total funding available for this grant period is $750,000. If state funding is available, the grant period will run from January 1, 2025, to December 31, 2025. Applications are due by November 14, 2024. Eligible LEAs must continue to meet the requirements established in project period 1 to qualify for this continuation funding, which aims to expand the capacity for mental health screenings and support student well-being in participating schools.
