The Grants for Change (G4C) program at Maine Initiatives is dedicated to supporting Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC) community-based, nonprofit organizations in Maine, aiming to dismantle racial injustice and further racial justice movements through various community-building efforts. For the period beginning in 2022, the program is set to offer over $1.5 million in multi-year, unrestricted support to organizations led by and serving BIPOC communities, with a special focus on Black and Wabanaki groups. These organizations strive for racial justice across institutional, structural, and systemic forms, and engage in activities ranging from community building and grassroots organizing to policy change and cultural practices.

- Must be Black-, Brown-, Indigenous-, Latinx-, Asian-, or People of Color-led organizations/groups/coalitions. - Must have an operational focus in Maine. - Organizations must have an operating budget under $1,500,000, except for groups applying with sponsorship from a Wabanaki Tribal entity or those with fiscal sponsors. - To qualify as BIPOC-led, organizations must meet at least two out of three criteria: 50% or more BIPOC staff leaders, BIPOC Board members, and BIPOC organizers. - The program is in its second year of a three-year commitment, aiming to strengthen the racial justice movement and ecosystem in Maine by supporting BIPOC-led and -serving organizations. The Grants for Change Program emphasizes participatory, community-led grantmaking, with a focus on collective decision-making.
