Grant Description

The Troy Community Foundation (TCF) Grant Program provides financial assistance to nonprofit organizations and individuals delivering charitable projects and programs within the city of Troy, Michigan. The foundation aims to enhance the quality of life for Troy residents through grants supporting initiatives in arts and culture, health and recreation, youth and seniors, and community beautification. Eligible applicants include nonprofit organizations that are federally tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, as well as individuals conducting charitable activities. To apply, applicants must complete an online application and submit required supporting documents, including a federal tax exemption letter (if applicable), leadership details, an operating budget, and financial statements from the most recent year-end. Applications must be typed, submitted electronically, and accompanied by relevant background materials. The foundation does not fund organizations serving areas outside of Troy, annual fund drives, capital campaigns, administrative costs such as salaries, or religious and political activities. Additionally, grants are generally not awarded for student research, private schools (unless serving a broad population), or organizations that redistribute funds at their discretion. Grant applications are evaluated based on several criteria, including innovation, community impact, financial prudence, volunteer involvement, and the ability to unify and engage the community. Preference may be given to projects demonstrating immediate impact, addressing urgent funding needs, or serving as seed grants for new initiatives. Applications are accepted year-round, but individual grants are typically awarded for a period of twelve months or less. Grant amounts generally range from $250 to $2,000, with each request reviewed on its own merit. TCF rarely funds entire projects and expects applicants to secure additional funding sources. Grant recipients must comply with reporting requirements, including financial documentation and publicity arrangements. Misuse of grant funds will result in a recall of funds and may disqualify future grant applications. The foundation reserves the right to impose performance requirements before disbursing grant funds.
