Small Multimodal & Economic Resiliency Grants

The Revitalizing Main Streets (RMS) Grant Program is a statewide initiative designed to enhance active transportation safety and strengthen connections to main streets and economic hubs across Colorado. The program funds infrastructure improvements that make walking and biking safer and more accessible, encouraging physical activity and fostering local economic growth. By investing in these projects, RMS aims to yield long-term benefits that improve community connections and promote sustainable urban development. Launched in 2021 as part of Colorado’s COVID-19 Recovery Plan, the program began with a $30 million allocation from the state legislature and was further supported by $85 million through Colorado Senate Bill 260 for a 10-year expansion. Inspired by the success of the Safer Main Streets initiative, RMS takes a statewide approach to revitalizing downtowns and mixed-use centers, with a focus on building vibrant, inclusive, and resilient communities. The program’s goals include encouraging active transportation and healthy lifestyles by revitalizing public spaces, supporting economic development by creating opportunities for local businesses to thrive, and fostering innovative uses of community areas. RMS also prioritizes ensuring equitable access to transportation by providing safe and inclusive options for residents of all ages, incomes, and abilities, including vulnerable populations. Currently, the program is accepting applications for the Small Multimodal & Economic Resiliency Projects Grants, with a submission deadline of December 18, 2024. Eligible applicants include local governments, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT), and other governmental agencies qualified to receive federal transportation funds. Projects must align with the program’s objectives to improve community access, enhance economic vitality, and create safer public spaces. To assist applicants, weekly office hours are held via Zoom every Wednesday from 9 to 10 a.m. (excluding state holidays). Applicants can join these sessions to receive guidance and clarification about the application process. Additionally, resources such as eligibility criteria and application details are available on the program’s website. The RMS Grant Program has already supported numerous projects statewide, empowering communities to transform their streets into safer and more vibrant spaces.
