Alaska Humanities Forum announces Stories Grants
This grant provides $10,000 to Alaska-based nonprofit organizations and tribal governments to support storytelling projects that highlight underrepresented narratives and foster community connections in Alaska.
The Stories Grants, offered by the Alaska Humanities Forum, are designed to support projects that amplify underrecognized or excluded narratives in Alaska’s past, present, and future. These grants aim to foster a more inclusive understanding of Alaska’s diverse cultures, identities, and histories by investing in storytelling that bridges differences and deepens community connections. The grant provides flat funding of $10,000 for projects that highlight stories that need to be told, with a particular focus on those that have been left out of public discourse. Eligible applicants must be Alaska-based nonprofit organizations or federally recognized tribal governments. For-profit organizations and individuals cannot apply, though individuals may collaborate with organizations, provided the organization plays a meaningful role in the project’s design and implementation. Examples of potential projects include written articles, oral histories, podcasts, photography, short films, multimedia projects, and other digital storytelling formats. The application period is open from July 17 to October 15, 2024, and applicants can apply through multiple methods, including online, email, phone, video/audio recording, or via a conversational application for those new to the grant writing process. The conversational option is available by contacting the Alaska Humanities Forum at least three weeks before the deadline. To ensure the best chance of success, applicants can request proposal consultations and submit drafts for feedback by September 30, 2024. The Forum’s Grants team is available to answer questions and provide guidance on the application process. For more information, applicants can visit the Forum’s Submittable page or contact the Grants team directly.
