2026 Skokie Community Foundation Grant
This grant provides funding for collaborative projects that improve the Skokie community, focusing on sustainable initiatives that benefit local residents.
The Skokie Community Foundation (SCF) is currently accepting proposals for its 2026 grant cycle aimed at fostering impactful and sustainable initiatives that directly benefit Skokie residents. SCF prioritizes collaborative efforts between organizations to address community needs and create scalable, sustainable change. The Foundation’s overarching goal is to foster unity, break down barriers, and build a dynamic, inclusive community in Skokie. Grants are intended to fund projects that bring about tangible, lasting improvements to the community and demonstrate a shared commitment among co-applicants. Applicants can propose new initiatives, pilot projects, or enhancements to existing programs. SCF typically awards grants of $5,000, although proposals may request up to $10,000. A total of $25,000 in funding is allocated for this cycle. While preference is given to ongoing projects rather than one-time events, any proposal must focus on measurable outcomes that primarily benefit Skokie residents. At least two organizations must apply together, with one being a 501(c)(3) organization, a school, or a government entity. If not, a fiscal sponsor meeting these requirements must be involved. The application requires a detailed Project Narrative organized under eleven mandatory headings, including the project's focus, organizational details, methods, goals, target audience, evaluation strategy, and sustainability plans. Additional required materials include the name and contact information for a primary contact, a project budget, and a joint statement from all participating organizations detailing their responsibilities. Optional materials, limited to five pages, may also be included. All materials must be submitted as a single PDF via the SCF website by July 15, 2025, at 11:59 PM CST. Proposals are evaluated on their relevance to Skokie’s needs, the level of collaboration between organizations, scalability, participant recruitment strategies, budget appropriateness, and sustainability plans. SCF emphasizes the importance of mutual respect and unity among community members, placing special importance on projects that reflect these values. Grants are for a one-year period from January 1 to December 31, 2026. Notification of awards will occur by early October 2025. Mid-year reports, due July 1, 2026, should include testimonials and media documenting progress. Final reports are due by January 31, 2027. SCF may also conduct site visits with grantees. Questions regarding the grant should be directed to Jim Szczepaniak, Executive Director, at jims@skokiecommunityfoundation.org.
