Grant Description

The TSET Healthy Incentive Grants for Communities program is designed to support cities and towns in Oklahoma in adopting and implementing policies and programs that promote tobacco-free environments, access to nutritious foods, and active living. These grants aim to enhance community well-being by encouraging the adoption of best practices that improve health outcomes for residents. The funding is awarded based on a classification system—Bronze, Silver, or Gold—determined by the level of implementation of required health initiatives. The application period for the FY25 grant cycle consists of two open periods: October 25, 2024 – November 22, 2024, and March 3, 2025 – March 28, 2025. Applications are reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis and must be submitted by 4:00 p.m. Central Time on the final day of each cycle. Previous TSET incentive grant recipients may reapply, provided they have met all requirements of their prior grants and comply with the updated classification standards for which they are applying. To be eligible, applicants must be an incorporated city, town, or municipality in Oklahoma. Prior recipients must have satisfactorily closed previous grants before applying for additional funding. Evaluation criteria include the adoption of comprehensive tobacco-free ordinances, promotion of tobacco cessation resources, establishment of workplace wellness programs, implementation of youth tobacco access prevention policies, and initiatives to increase access to healthy foods and physical activity opportunities. Funding amounts vary based on city population size and classification level. Awards range from $10,000 to $200,000, with higher awards allocated to cities that meet the highest-level criteria. Grant funds must be utilized within one year of approval and do not require matching funds. Suggested uses include building walking trails, installing bike lanes, improving community pools, and developing farmers' markets and community gardens. All grant applications must be submitted via Smartsheet and include supporting documentation verifying compliance with grant criteria. Notification of award decisions will be made via email within one business day of the TSET Board of Directors meeting where applications are considered. Awarded cities have 60 days to complete contract documentation. Failure to do so may result in forfeiture of funds. For inquiries, applicants can contact the TSET Grants Management team at grantsmanagement@tset.ok.gov.
