Grant Description

The Green Streets, Green Jobs, Green Towns (G3) Grant Program is a collaborative effort funded by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region III, the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection, and the Chesapeake Bay Trust. The program is designed to support green streets, urban greening, and tree canopy projects to reduce stormwater runoff and improve urban environments. It aligns with the Chesapeake Bay Protection and Restoration Executive Order and focuses on enhancing community livability and the health of local waters. The program supports initiatives across urbanized watersheds in Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Washington, D.C., West Virginia, and Virginia. Funding is available for various project tracks, including conceptual plans (up to $20,000), engineered designs (up to $35,000), construction or implementation (up to $175,000), community greening (up to $50,000), white papers (up to $20,000), and technical planning assistance (no direct funding). Applicants can use tools like the G3 Implementation Project Calculator and the Pollutant Load Reduction Calculator to prepare detailed proposals and evaluate project impacts, such as pollutant reduction and cost-effectiveness. Eligible applicants include local governments, nonprofit organizations, and community associations. Projects must fall within the Chesapeake Bay watershed to qualify. While matching funds are not required, they are encouraged. Applications are submitted through an online system, and all proposals undergo review by a Technical Review Committee comprising external subject matter experts. The review criteria and additional details are outlined in the Request for Proposals (RFP). Applicants must submit required forms, including the G3 Implementation Project Calculator for construction projects. Resources, including tips for grant writing and examples of past projects, are available to guide applicants. Information sessions and office hours will be announced to provide additional support. The application deadline is March 10, 2025, at 4 PM Eastern Time. Prospective applicants are encouraged to consult the RFP for a comprehensive understanding of eligibility, project requirements, and the application process. Further resources and past project fact sheets are accessible through the Chesapeake Bay Trust’s website for additional inspiration and guidance. For questions, applicants can contact program officers directly.
