Grant Description

The Office of the Attorney General (AGO) of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts is now accepting applications for its 2025 Local Consumer Program (LCP) grant. This grant program is funded through the AGO’s Local Consumer Aid Fund (LCAF) and is designed to support organizations providing localized consumer assistance services across the state. These services aim to help residents address a broad range of consumer-related issues, including unfair or deceptive business practices. Grant awards for the upcoming fiscal year, which spans from July 1, 2025, through June 30, 2026 (FY26), will range from $40,000 to $125,000. The deadline to submit applications is 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time on April 30, 2025. Prospective applicants are encouraged to attend an informational session scheduled for April 8, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., which will provide details about the program and application process. The Local Consumer Program aims to support organizations that use community-based knowledge and engagement to deliver effective consumer dispute resolution services. These services often include mediation, voluntary advocacy, and consumer education initiatives that help residents resolve problems related to retail, housing, and more. In the previous year, LCP-funded programs handled approximately 10,000 consumer complaints and returned over $3.7 million to Massachusetts residents. Eligible applicants include 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations in good standing with both the IRS and the AGO's Non-Profit/Public Charities Division, local government entities (such as District Attorneys’ offices, mayoral offices, or other municipal departments providing consumer support), and colleges or universities currently operating or intending to operate consumer programs. All questions regarding the grant process must be submitted by 5:00 p.m. on April 24, 2025. Detailed application materials are available on the Attorney General’s website at www.mass.gov/ago/grants. Questions should be directed to the AGO by email at LCP@mass.gov. For media inquiries, the contact is Sabrina Zafar, Deputy Press Secretary, reachable at (617) 727-2543 or by email at Sabrina.Zafar2@mass.gov.
