Grant Description

The Equity Grant Round is a collaborative initiative led by the Community Foundation and the UpMobility Foundation (UMF) to confront systemic racism and socioeconomic inequity impacting historically marginalized communities in Herkimer and Oneida counties, New York. This grant opportunity is structured to support nonprofit organizations dedicated to tackling root causes of inequality through transformative policy, systems change, and inclusive community engagement. Organizations may apply for up to $20,000 in funding for eligible projects and programs that create long-term solutions to disparities in education, healthcare, housing, economic opportunity, and food security. Successful proposals will clearly focus on promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion through programs that either launch new initiatives or expand effective existing ones. Additionally, funding is available for organizational development activities such as strategic planning and board succession, as well as capital improvements including repairs, equipment purchases, and technology upgrades. Applicants must be 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations, or organizations working with a 501(c)(3) fiscal sponsor. Faith-based organizations may also apply, provided their proposals address non-religious community needs and are open to individuals regardless of religious affiliation. The proposed program or project must serve residents of Herkimer and/or Oneida counties, and it must either launch in June 2025 or later, or, if already ongoing, exclude any expenses incurred prior to June. Programs are required to demonstrate clear, measurable outcomes and a defined timeline for completion. Submissions will be accepted beginning Tuesday, April 1, 2025, through Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time. Only one application per organization is allowed. Funding decisions will be communicated within 60 days of the deadline. All applicants will be notified of the decision, whether or not they are selected for funding. While priority will be given to organizations led by people of color and those focused on racial equity and related issues, all qualifying nonprofits are encouraged to apply. There is no guarantee of funding. Requests for funding that are not eligible include scholarships, individual financial assistance, loans, faith-specific religious programming, general operating support, DEI educational programming, and expenses already incurred. Interested applicants with questions about eligibility or project fit are encouraged to contact the Community Foundation at grants@foundationhoc.org or the UpMobility Foundation at info@upmobility.org. While the grant is focused on the Mohawk Valley, UMF may invite applications from organizations outside the region on a selective basis.
