Grant Description

The FY 2025 Byrne State Crisis Intervention Program (SCIP), administered by the Michigan State Police (MSP) Grants and Community Services Division (GCSD), provides grant funding to reduce and prevent gun violence while fostering safer communities. This competitive grant supports units of government partnered with community-based organizations (CBOs) to implement violence intervention and prevention programs targeting issues like gun violence, intimate partner violence, and community trauma. The program prioritizes evidence-based strategies, such as community outreach, education, and trauma-informed care, to address these challenges and improve community well-being. Eligible applicants are Michigan units of government, such as cities, counties, townships, or certain federally recognized tribes, collaborating with CBOs to implement intervention strategies. Each applicant must include a detailed project narrative, a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with the partner CBO(s), and comprehensive project and budget plans. Funded projects must partner with a local evaluator and participate in program evaluations conducted by the University of Michigan Institute for Firearm Injury Prevention. The grant operates on a reimbursement-only basis and prohibits supplanting existing funds.
