Fennie Community Fund

The Fennie Community Fund Grant is a philanthropic initiative managed by the Long Beach Community Foundation (LBCF), established through an estate gift from Jack L. Fennie in 1988. The fund's primary purpose is to support broad and general charitable activities with a specific emphasis on organizations serving children in Avalon and Long Beach, California. In 2025, the fund will expand its focus by allocating additional funding specifically for programs and projects that directly benefit the community of Avalon. Applications for the Fennie Community Fund Grant must be completed in full and submitted by Thursday, August 7, 2025, at 5 p.m. Applications should be concise and detailed, clearly outlining the impact and sustainability of the proposed program or project. Applicants are advised not to assume the review committee has prior knowledge of their work, and specificity is highly encouraged. Eligible applicants include 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations, educational institutions, and government entities that are based in the United States and serve the communities of Long Beach or Avalon. All applicants must be in good standing with the IRS. Applications will be evaluated by a Board-appointed Grants Selection Committee that will select and recommend the most qualified candidates. This process may involve requests for additional information or interviews with applicants. Grant awards will range from $5,000 to $10,000. Award announcements are expected in October 2025. All applicants will receive confirmation of receipt of their application. Grantees must agree to specific conditions, including prior written approval for budget changes exceeding $1,000 or 10% of a line item, and notification of any significant project or leadership changes within 30 days. All awarded projects are subject to a reporting requirement. Grantees must document fund expenditures, the program's impact, the number of individuals served, and measured outcomes. A testimonial from a program beneficiary is also required to help LBCF communicate the impact of funded initiatives.
