Grant Description

The American Short-Term Research Publication Grants are designed to support women in academia by providing funding to assist them in preparing research manuscripts for publication. The program aims to increase the number of women achieving academic tenure and to promote gender equity in higher education. The American Association of University Women, which has a long history of supporting women's education since its inception in 1888, administers these grants. The funding is particularly encouraged for those engaged in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics fields, as well as research focused on gender issues. The primary purpose of the grant is to facilitate the publication of research by women scholars, thereby enhancing their academic careers and contributing to gender equity in academia. The grant provides financial support to cover activities such as drafting, editing, or modifying manuscripts, replicating research, and addressing feedback from critical reviews. The funding amount is set at $8,000, which is disbursed annually in July, and the grant period runs from July 1, 2025, to June 30, 2026. Eligibility for the grant is limited to individuals who identify as women and who hold a relevant doctoral degree at the time of application. Preferred applicants are those publishing research in the fields of science, technology, engineering, mathematics, or gender studies. Additionally, the program prioritizes applicants who have demonstrated resilience in overcoming life challenges, such as socioeconomic disadvantages or discrimination, and those who are first-generation college graduates or from single-parent households. Geographic preference is given to applicants from specific states, including Arkansas, West Virginia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Nevada, Kentucky, Oklahoma, Alabama, Tennessee, or Indiana. Submission requirements include a completed application form, which must be submitted by the deadline of November 15, 2024. Applicants are expected to provide detailed information about their research and how the grant will assist in the publication process. The application will also include specific questions that assess the applicant's qualifications and the significance of their research. Evaluation criteria for the grant will focus on the quality and relevance of the proposed research, the applicant's academic background, and their potential for contributing to gender equity in higher education. The selection process will consider the applicant's resilience and any challenges they have faced, as well as their commitment to advancing knowledge in their field. Important dates to note include the application deadline of November 15, 2024, and the grant period, which begins on July 1, 2025, and ends on June 30, 2026. For further information, potential applicants can visit the American Association of University Women's website or contact their support team via email or phone.
