Downtown Building Security Program

The Downtown Fond du Lac Partnership (DFP) is offering the 2025 Building Security Grant to support property and business owners within the Downtown Fond du Lac Business Improvement District (BID). This initiative is designed to improve safety and emergency access in the area by subsidizing the cost of exterior surveillance camera systems and Rapid Entry System Lock Boxes. The program operates in partnership with the Fond du Lac Police Department and Fond du Lac Fire Department. The grant offers reimbursement of up to $250 per surveillance camera. These systems must meet specific criteria to ensure compatibility with the police department's systems. Requirements include online access via web and mobile, street or alley coverage, clear entry/exit views, a minimum of 3–4 weeks of footage retention, continuous recording, minimum 1080p video quality (preferably 4K), unified labeling and system integration, and a wired power source. Prior to reimbursement, applicants must provide the police department with camera installation details and access information. In addition to cameras, the grant also provides financial assistance for purchasing Rapid Entry System Lock Boxes. These devices allow emergency personnel to access buildings quickly using a universal key held by the Fond du Lac Fire Department. Lock boxes must be purchased from Kidde and registered under the fire department’s jurisdiction. Prices range between $51 and $234, and the grant reimburses 50% of the cost. Property owners must consult the DFP before making a purchase, and the fire department will assist with identifying suitable installation locations. To be eligible, applicants must own property or operate a business within the Downtown Fond du Lac BID and must be in good standing with the city and DFP in terms of property taxes, BID assessments, permits, fines, and other fees. The grant program is open until December 1, 2025, or until all available funds have been allocated. Applications must be complete and submitted by the deadline to be considered. Once approved, funding is reserved for 90 days, after which it may be reallocated if unused. Reimbursement is only processed after installation is complete and all documentation is submitted.
