Grant Description

The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) has announced a funding opportunity under the California Tobacco Prevention Program (CTPP) titled "Ending California’s Tobacco Epidemic in Every Community" (RFA 24-10095). The grant aims to support up to 43 local projects over a 36-month period, with a total funding pool of approximately $38.7 million. Each awardee can receive up to $900,000 for the entire project duration, with funding sourced from Proposition 56 and Proposition 99, contingent upon state budget appropriations and program priorities. The purpose of the grant is to advance policy, system, and environmental change strategies to accelerate progress toward ending California’s tobacco epidemic. The program specifically targets communities that have been disproportionately affected by the tobacco industry, including African American/Black, Asian/Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander, Latino, LGBTQ+, and rural populations. Funded projects must engage at least one policy objective aimed at these priority groups and an asset objective to support local policy initiatives by involving organizations and community members. The grant term will run from July 1, 2025, to June 30, 2028. The application process requires a mandatory letter of intent, due by October 18, 2024, followed by the full application submission deadline on November 8, 2024. An optional informational webinar will be held on September 19, 2024, to assist potential applicants with the application process. Written questions about the RFA can be submitted until October 3, 2024, with responses posted on the Tobacco Control Funding Opportunities and Resources (TCFOR) website on October 10, 2024. Applicants must have at least three years of experience in tobacco prevention and be capable of implementing specified intervention and evaluation activities to qualify for this grant opportunity.
