Grant Description

The Transformative Impact Grant offered by the Heart of Maine United Way (HoMEUW) is a strategic funding opportunity designed to empower collaborative initiatives that create sustainable change for children and youth aged 0-18. This grant supports coalitions in Hancock, Penobscot, Piscataquis, Somerset, Waldo, and Washington counties to address challenges such as mental health, mentoring, family support, education, or other community needs for youth. Eligibility requires coalitions of three or more organizations with a shared vision, defined objectives, and a designated backbone organization to coordinate efforts. Applicants must be 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations, educational institutions, or municipalities operating within the HoMEUW service area. They must have an active governing board, file annual IRS Form 990 (if applicable), and provide financial statements based on gross receipts. HoMEUW prioritizes programs that do not discriminate based on race, gender, age, or other criteria and do not integrate structured religious activities or political campaigns. Applicants are invited to submit a Letter of Interest (LOI) by January 8, 2025, at 4:00 PM. LOIs should outline the initiative's name, goals, evidence-based approach, planned activities, target population, timeline, metrics, and coalition roles, as well as how funds will be used and other resources supporting the effort. Selected applicants will be invited to submit full proposals, which are due by February 18, 2025, at 4:00 PM. Funding decisions will be announced in June 2025. One award of $85,000 per year for three years (July 2025 to June 2028) will be granted, supporting operational costs, program delivery, and coalition consultation. Applicants are encouraged to develop plans that emphasize long-term sustainability and measurable impact on youth development. For further details, organizations can contact HoMEUW directly via email at grants@homeunitedway.org.
