Artist Projects in Washington
This grant provides $1,500 to individual artists and established artist teams in Washington State to support their creative projects, with a focus on promoting equity for BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, disabled, and rural-based artists.
The Grants for Artist Projects (GAP), administered by Artist Trust, provide unrestricted project-based grants of $1,500 to artists residing across Washington State. Artist Trust is a nonprofit organization founded in 1986 that has awarded over $15 million directly to individual artists. Dedicated to promoting racial and geographic equity, Artist Trust supports artists from all backgrounds and disciplines throughout the state. Through GAP, the organization aims to empower artists in realizing their creative goals and sustaining their practices, regardless of discipline or medium. GAP funds can be used flexibly for a variety of project-related expenses, such as artist fees, materials, equipment, studio or venue rental, research travel, professional development, documentation, marketing, and other necessities that support either the initiation or continuation of an artistic project. This grant cycle includes 65 awards of $1,500 each, and the program specifically encourages applications from BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, disabled, and rural-based artists. Eligible applicants must be at least 18 years old and legal residents of Washington State at both the time of application and when funds are distributed in October 2025. Applicants must be individual artists or established artist teams, but not affiliated with organizations or companies, or enrolled students. Prior GAP awardees from 2020 to 2024 and recipients of specific other Artist Trust awards are not eligible. Teams must demonstrate a collaborative history of at least three years and seek eligibility approval before applying. The application window runs from May 16 to June 23, 2025, with applications submitted through Submittable. The review process, conducted by multidisciplinary panels of working artists, emphasizes artistic excellence, project clarity, and the potential impact of funding. Panelists apply a racial equity lens and consider geographic and disciplinary diversity. Awards are announced in October 2025 following board review in September. Applicants are required to submit a discipline statement, biography, project description, impact statement, and work samples adhering to strict formatting and content guidelines. Submissions can be written, audio, or video, but must follow defined criteria to avoid disqualification. Additional resources such as a reference guide, info sessions, office hours, and webinars are available to support applicants. All application materials must be submitted by 11:59 PM PST on June 23, 2025, with no exceptions for late entries. For questions, applicants may contact Program Director Lydia Boss via email at lydia@artisttrust.org or phone at (206) 467-8734 x25. Technical support with Submittable is also available directly through their help portal.
