Lawn Care for Cleaner Air Community Equipment Grant Program
This grant provides professional-grade electric lawn equipment to non-profit organizations in Louisville/Jefferson County, Kentucky, to promote sustainability and improve air quality by replacing gas-powered tools.
The Lawn Care for Cleaner Air Community Equipment Grant Program annually provides a package of professional-grade, electric lawn equipment to a non-profit organization in Louisville/Jefferson County, Kentucky. This package includes an electric mower, trimmer, blower, and a rechargeable battery compatible with all three tools. The program aims to support maintenance needs while promoting the adoption of electric-powered equipment to reduce air pollution. The next grant application period is open until January 17, 2025. Eligible applicants must be non-profits, excluding government agencies, based in Louisville/Jefferson County. The equipment must replace gas-powered tools and be used to maintain safe and healthy grounds at specified locations. Applicants must demonstrate both a need for the equipment and a commitment to sustainability. Priority consideration is given to organizations located in areas identified as environmental justice concerns by the Kentuckiana Regional Planning and Development Agency. Recipients must agree to use the equipment exclusively for its intended purpose and report their experiences back to the Air Pollution Control District (APCD). This grant is part of APCD’s broader Lawn Care for Cleaner Air program, which incentivizes electric equipment adoption through rebates for residents and businesses, especially those recycling gas-powered tools. The shift from gas to electric lawn equipment addresses the significant air pollution caused by gas-powered tools in Louisville, which emit over 20.5 million pounds of pollutants annually. Electric equipment reduces emissions of volatile organic compounds and nitrous oxides, improving air quality and protecting users from harmful fumes. Past recipients include organizations such as the Waterfront Botanical Gardens, West End School, YouthBuild Louisville, and the Parks Alliance of Louisville. The program highlights its focus on improving environmental health while supporting community-driven initiatives. Interested organizations can apply online, and questions can be directed to APCD via email or phone.
